The blackjack tactics to use when playing pairs using basic strategy are very simple.

This strategy involves soft hands, hard hands, pairs, splitting, doubling up and of course all these are in relation to the dealer's up card all the time.

It is the fundamental training that every enthusiastic blackjack player will want to know to get an edge over the house. This edge dramatically reduces the casino's advantage to just 1% from a normal 7 to 10% on the house edge of winning in blackjack table games.

There are many reactions to playing in pairs or also known as splitting in single deck cards or multiple deck cards in play.

Looking at 4 to 8 decks of cards in play, and what the dealer's up card is:-
For a pair of Aces, always split the cards no matter what the dealer's up card is.
For a pair of twos or threes, always split if the dealer has 2 - 7 as the up card, if not just hit.
For two cards of fours, always split if the dealer has 5 or 6 as the up card, otherwise hit again!
For a pair of fives, double if the dealer has 2 through 9 as the up card, otherwise just hit.
If you have a pair of sixes, split if the dealer has 2 through 6 as the up card, otherwise hit.
If you have two same cards of sevens, split if the dealer has 2 through 7 as the up card, or else hit.
For a pair of eights, always split the cards regardless of what the dealer's up card is.
If you have a pair of nines, split when the dealer has 2 through 6, and 8 or 9. Stand if the dealer has 7, 10 or Ace.
When you get a pair of tens: Always Stand! It is the best you can do!
Some other tips in for your blackjack training before you head out to the casinos:-
You should stand on 12 if the dealer has an up card of 6 or lower.

You can hit when you have 17 and the dealer has a number 7 card or higher.
